These
fly fishermen go after trout in Rapid Creek. The warm
weather during the Sturgis Bike Rally makes wading fun.

size trout at 8-inches at the Sturgis Bike Rally
Granted,
those fish won't be trophies. But they will be wild
fish that run from 6- to 10-inches, with some larger
fish being caught. A few trout makes for a memorable
Sturgis Bike Rally.
That kind of fishing action makes Black Hills streams
an
excellent place to initiate someone into the art of
trout fishing. You generally get a lot of action.
Brown
trout are a Sturgis Bike Rally staple
Brown
trout are the main fish in Black Hills streams. These
are mostly hardy wild fish. There is some stocking,
but the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department
has been going forward with a policy of not stocking
hatchery fish where wild fish can maintain their populations.
And that is the case on the main segments of the best
streams - Rapid, Spearfish and Castle creeks. In the
smaller streams or the headwaters of the bigger streams
you'll catch wild brook trout. They're not big, but
they are scrappy.
Think
Small at the Sturgis Bike Rally
For
secluded Sturgis Bike Rally trout fishing and camping,
you can try the upper stretches of Rapid Creek and
Spearfish Creek, as well as Box Elder, French, Beaver
and other small streams.
Size 16 and smaller flies are generally used for most
patterns in the Black Hills. During summer when the
Sturgis Bike Rally is gong on, you might want to go
even smaller.
However, if you fish muddy water in early spring you
may
want to try one of the bigger nymphs such as the Montana
or Bitch Creek. By weighting these flies and fishing
the deeper holes you can sometimes pick up nice-sized
trout.
