Update
Sturgis - Aug. 14, 1:30 a.m. - I've never seen this
many people stay in Sturgis this long. It officially
wraps up tomorrow. And there are folks heads out.
But downtown is still swamped, and the Buffalo Chip
and Full Throttle still had very big crowds at night.
It's turning into a long party, indeed.
Update Sturgis News - Aug. 13, 12:15 a.m. - It's in
full swing. Huge numbers of people. Gigantic traffic
jams in places. But the Black Hills are beautiful.
There are an abundance of goofy outfits this
year. Popular with the Sturgis crowd are the Gorilla
Date, Betty Boop and the Babe Bus Bike. Photos of
these soon.
Update Sturgis News - Aug. 12, 1 a.m. - the 16th Annual
Hulett, WY Ham'N'Jam and Party in the Streets was
big.
When I left at noon the dead pig meat was BBQing,
the streets were crammed with thousands of bikers,
and the road was lined with oncoming bikes clear back
to Sturgis. Lots of weird looking people at this one.
I'm putting it on the list for next year. Pics coming
soon.
U pdate Sturgis News - Aug. 11, 12:15 a.m. - ZZ Top
playing at the The Chip tonight, with what some folks
think is the biggest crowd ever there - estimated
at 45,000 to 60,000 by some. Very wild. Very strange.
Very much like a human zoo.
Update Sturgis - Aug. 10, 12:30 a.m. - Autumn has
arrived early, so riding conditions are great - in
the 70s and sunny during the day. On the downside,
six bikers have already died in ccidents, one by hitting
a deer. And biker numbers haven't even peaked, yet.
Update Sturgis - Aug. 9, midnight - The Buffalo Chip
is fairly mind boggling this year, even for it. It
stretches further aross the prairie than I've ever
seen it. Lots of veteran bikers. ZZ Top there tomorrow
night should be quite the thing.
Update Sturgis - Aug. 8, 1:15 a.m, - Streets jammned.
Strangely, even more good looking women than paunchy
old-time hard-core men. Sunday will be a big Black
Hills cruising day.
Update Sturgis - Aug 7, 12:30 a.m. - though the rally
crowd is just now starting to arrive in full force,
it's
apparently that there is a big increase in Choppers
this year. Lots more of them.
Update Sturgis - Aug. 6, 1 a.m. - Largest pre-rally
crowd ever to show up has descended on Sturgis. It
doesn't even officially start until Monday.Looks to
be big, again.
