on the web
The
web cams change periodically at Sturgis and surrounding environs.
It's a money thing. They aren't cheap to keep running all the time,
and the dedication as well as the cash flow regularly dips down on
the low side. So, we keep track of them here in one place where you
can come right to this page and check them all out, easily. And, we
also give out our unsought and slightly deranged opinion of them,
for your amusement.
SturgisZone - Best Sturgis picture
site on the web is of course, done by our own staff of professional
undercover snoops. You can also catch them above.
Reviews
wwolf
- There are three on this page. They look like they are all actually
from the local newspaper in Rapid City, so I'm not sure how they are
getting away with putting these on another site. But, here they are.
They are small images. For the larger images, see the Journal links
below. The top two are from Sturgis, the left lower is from Deadwood.
Two are from Sturgis, one
Daily 1 - this is one of the main cams at the rally. It
is taken from the main drag at Sturgis. It's actaully run by the
Rapid City Journal, which has chosen to name it the Rally Daily.
Quality of the cam is good, and it's reliable. Which hopefully it
will remain, but with the state of newspapers today, nothing is
certain along that line.
Daily 2 - This close-up cam is on the sidewalk in Sturgis.
It is supposedly for people to stand under, and then wave to folks
back home. Kind of cheesey, if you ask me. And if you watch it long
enough, you'll see somebody picking their nose, as well. If you
happen to be in Sturgis with someone other than your legal spouse,
then this particular spot is some place you will want to stear clear
of.
Buckle
Tree - This is also in Sturgis. It's smaller and of lower quality.
It also tends to be very bogged down and slow or impossible to use
as visitation rises during the rally. It does have very fast refresh
rates, and you can watch people actually walk by, or by glide along.
Deadwood
Cam - This one is one the main street stretching down Deadwood.
It's most likely to be busy on afternoons during the rally. Lots
of people come up here to escape the heat of the plains, or just
to have something to do. This one is also run by the Rapid City
Journal, they just named it something else.
Rapid City Skyline
Drive - is located on the highest ridge that cuts Rapid City
in half. This doesn't show traffic or people. It's small, and refreshes
only every 40 seconds. But you can see the weather, like if a tornado
is headed this way. It is run on the South Dakota Public Broadcasting
web site, which has dropped some of it's cams. This one is still
up, for now.
Downtown
Rapid City - One of the busiest intersections in Rapid City
here. It's at Fifth and Main, and the cam is likely mounted on the
newspaper building. During the rally there will be a fair number
of bikes coming through this spot, and you can get an idea of traffic.
I-90 near Sturgis
- All of these cams are on Interstate 90 right Sturgis. The traffic
backups aren't nearly what they used to be since the on and off
ramps were expanded. But you'll get an idea of the rally traffic
by checking these out, especially towards evening when people are
piling back into town.

These are on the route many bikers take, even for day trips out
of Sturgis and into the wide open spaces. The cam images are large,
but only update every few minutes. They are big enough you can really
get a good idea of the weather.
