Rally - Crowds Jam Town, Residents Flee
STURGIS
- (Copyright 2002 Sturgis Top 10) The marrying preacher
in Sturgis has watched about everything come down
the street over the years at the Sturgis Rally.
This year's is the biggest. With more people early
in the Sturgis Rally than ever before. The streets
are packed. The sidewalks are jammed. And quite often
it is a big hassle.
But if it were any other way it wouldn't be Sturgis.
And it wouldn't be half the fun. Who knows how many
people will be here by midweek.
The preacher does a fair business marrying people
off. But at the rally a lot of people live in a tent.
A lot don't bathe too often. Manylive in close proximity.
And I wonder if a divorce business might no be an
easier sell.
What's
hot in Sturgis
It
certainly seems to be the extremely bright bikes.
Neon with flames coming out. Blinding in the sun.
Black is always in. But there is more bright this
year. Even Hawaiian stuff.
Gang-neutral
Sturgis
At
least that's what the police say, that there is a
truce or agreement of sorts in Sturgis. So, gangs
supposedly aren't blasting, hacking and beating.
I don't have a clue, personally. At least no one is
dead, yet, that I know of. But then there is a lot
of sparsely settled territory in western South Dakota
where things tend not to turn up, for years.
