Rising up out
of the distant haze, the Black Hills are part of the lore of
this part of the continent where they were known as Paha Sapa to the
Indians who still do live here. The trees in the distance are green,
of course,
as ponderosa pines are. The name Black Hills came about because from
a long distance, these mountains look black. You'll see them from
50 miles out as you ride in.
